The Beddoe came late in Stanley Thompson's career. It was one of his last three or four designs in Canada before he died in January 1953. This is the man behind Banff, Jasper and St. George's.
He drew it in 1948 and was at Chedoke building it through 1950. The course is named for Harold Beddoe, Chedoke's second club president, and when it fully opened in 1951, Chedoke became the first municipal club in Canada with 36 holes.
It lies right under the Niagara Escarpment in Hamilton's west end, a few minutes from downtown, and the City of Hamilton, which runs it, calls it scenic and demanding.
